Web design agency – Advert

This is a spec piece

Brief

The aim was to create a concise, high-performing advert for a website design agency targeting growing UK businesses. The objective was to position the agency as a strategic partner that upgrades outdated websites into modern, conversion-focused assets that support business growth.

Audience

Small to mid-sized businesses that struggle with their current websites, especially in the context of performance, user experience or the site’s look. These businesses feel like their website no longer generate leads, or converts at the level they need. Decision-makers are usually owners, directors or marketing managers who value clarity, reliability, transparent pricing and fast turnaround.

Approach

The advert is written in a direct-response style designed to quickly validate the reader’s frustrations and present a clear, low-friction solution. The tone is empathetic and benefit-focused. Key psychological drivers include reassurance around common objections for this audience. The copy leads naturally to a strong call-to-action.

This piece demonstrates the ability to blend emotional resonance, clarity and persuasive structure while still delivering a confident, commercially driven message.

Takeaway

Working on this advert reinforced how important it is to balance empathy with clarity when writing direct-response copy for service-based businesses.
The biggest challenge was maintaining a strong sales angle within tight character limits while avoiding the typical “agency-speak” that makes prospects switch off.

By focusing on benefits, addressing objections early and keeping the tone supportive rather than pushy, the final version feels human, confident and commercially sharp.

This piece also reminded me how powerful micro-reassurances are in direct sales. A single line handling an objection often does more heavy lifting than an entire paragraph about features.

The end result is an advert that not only sells the service but makes the reader feel understood, which is ultimately the foundation of effective response-driven copy.
